Pakistan buys over eight million tonnes urea for kharif season

The National Fertiliser Marketing Limited (NFML) imported record urea for last Rabi season while steps are being taken to import over eight million tonnes of urea for upcoming Kharif season which would be available at all sale stores across the country, NFML Marketing Head Aziz Abubakr said on Monday (June 11).

Aziz further said that for timely importing urea, senior Federal Minister Pervaiz Elahi played an import role, adding that as minister belongs to a peasant family, he knows well the problems of farmers' community. Aziz Abubakr maintained that NFML has imported a record volume of urea under Pervaiz Elahi's direction and made its distribution across the country on equality basis.

He claimed that senior federal minister has won the hearts of farmers' community by ensuring the availability of urea on affordable prices so that peasants could once again get bumper crops as they yielded in last Rabi season.

Aziz said had Pervaiz Elahi not imported urea in time, different local urea companies would have been looted poor farmers, he said adding that due to import of urea in time, these local urea manufacturing companies could not hike prices of fertiliser.
